Age of iron warships was born on Feb 8, 1862


On this day in 1862, the Confederate ironclad Virginia wreaks havoc on a Yankee squadron off Hampton Roads, Virginia. 

This signaled the end of wooden ships and while era of the iron clad warship was born!

There’s still plenty of great maritime history to take in Virginia.

As many folks say: “Virginia is for lovers…of history and beyond!”
